The Dose – where to get your dopamine hit this week (Jan 9-15)

First week back at work getting you down? Here’s what I’m doing to pick myself up this week.

Wednesday night is going to be the last evershow at VKs and I suspect it will be a night to remember. VKs has been a big part of the Wellington comedy scene over the last couple of years and it is heartbreaking that we are losing this venue. So come along and have a drink, a laugh, and possibly a bit of a cry with us.

On Thursday I will be heading along to catch Nation and Sea Mouse at San Fran. I’m looking forward to this one as I’ve caught the end of Nations set twice recently and that left me wanting more.

After that, I plan on a quiet weekend but may pop along to Summer Strings at Fringe on Saturday. This is a showcase of some of the best up and coming talent from Fringes open mic night. The big drawcard here is Tessa Dillon who I saw perform in The Menagerie back in August – her performance gave me goosebumps and I suspect she will have improved dramatically since then.

If you haven’t yet seen Gold Medal Famous you can catch them on Friday at Caroline, and for something a little more lively on Saturday check out GROMz and The Shambles playing at Meow.

If nothing else this is a great time of year to go and see a new band – so get out of the house and support the local music scene.
